Welcome to the 1st International Electronic Conference—Futuristic Applications on Electronics

Dear scientists, researchers, and authors,

We are pleased to announce that the 1st International Electronic Conference—Futuristic Applications on Electronics, chaired by Prof. Dr. Flavio Canavero, will be held at https://sciforum.net/conference/IEC2020 from 1 to 30 November 2020.

This conference aims to provide leading scientists working in the broad field of electronics with a robust common platform on which to share and discuss the latest research and to promote the advancement of this exciting and rapidly changing field. We would like to encourage submissions about current and emerging technologies, focused on the theoretical, simulation and experimental aspects of electronics. The following broad themes will be covered:

  • New engineering developments related to the heterogeneous integration of wireless and mixed signal devices, bio-chips, power devices, optoelectronics and microelectromechanical systems.
  • Future applications of electronic circuits and systems, with a special emphasis on food and agriculture, healthcare, mobility and smart cities, and sustainable energy.
  • The fundamental classical theory and the Artificial Intelligence models supporting emerging technologies.

We proudly invite the global community of scholars to join IEC2020 to present their latest research and development and share novel ideas on the multidisciplinary aspects of heterogeneous integration and on applications to new societal challenges. Flavio Canavero is Full Professor at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications of Politecnico di Torino. He received his diploma in Electronics Engineering in 1977 from Politecnico di Torino, and his PhD in 1986 from Georgia Institute of Technology. He works in the area of circuits and systems theory, with a special interest in signal integrity and EMC design issues. To date, he has authored or coauthored more than 300 papers published in international journals and conference proceedings.

Flavio Canavero is Full Professor at the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications of Politecnico di Torino. He received his diploma in Electronics Engineering in 1977 from Politecnico di Torino, and his PhD in 1986 from Georgia Institute of Technology. He works in the area of circuits and systems theory, with special interest in signal integrity and EMC design issues. To date, he has authored or coauthored more than 300 papers published in international journals and conference proceedings. During his scientific career, he has been involved in various service activities both at the level of his institution and for many international organizations. At Politecnico di Torino, he has been Director of the Electronics Department (1993–1999), Vice Rector for Organization (2001–2005), and Head of the Doctoral School (2012–2018). At the international level, he has been a member of the Steering Committee of the Council for doctoral Education (CDE) of the European University Association (EUA), a member of the Board of Directors of the IEEE EMC Society (2012–2015), and VP of Communication Services for the same Society. He has been the Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility (2004–2006) and the Technical Editor of the IEEE Electromagnetic Compatibility Newsletter. Between 2005 and 2008, he was the Chair of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) Commission E (Noise and Interference). He has been also a Member of the IEEE Fellow Committee and of the IEEE Press Editorial Board. He has been the Organizer of the Workshop on Signal Propagation on Interconnects (SPI) during 2001–2003 and 2007. He is currently a Member of the Editorial Boards for several scientific journals and a Member of the Scientific Steering Committees of several International Conferences in the field of EMC and electrical performance of interconnects and packages. Prior to moving to Polytech, he worked as an Assistant Professor to explore “magnetic nanomedicine along with drug delivery to the brain for CND disease management and miniaturized electrochemical sensing systems for personalized health wellness” at the Center of Personalized Nanomedicine, Institute of NeuroImmune Pharmacology, Department of Immunology and Nano-Medicine, Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, Florida International University (FIU), Miami USA. He is the recipient of various reputed awards for his service in the area of nano-biotechnology in healthcare. His excellent research credentials are reflected in his four edited books, over 100 international research peer-reviewed publications, and three patents in the area of nanomedicine and smart biosensors for personalized healthcare.

Hamid Reza Karimi (M’06–SM’09), born in 1976, received his B.Sc. (First Hons.) degree in power systems from the Sharif University of Technology, Tehran, Iran, in 1998 and his M.Sc. and Ph.D. (First Hons.) degrees in control systems engineering from the University of Tehran, Tehran, in 2001 and 2005, respectively. From 2009 to 2016, he was full professor of Mechatronics and Control Systems at the University of Agder in Norway. Since 2016, he has been a professor of Applied Mechanics at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy. His current research interests include control systems and mechatronics with applications to automotive control systems and wind energy.

Tom Dhaene is Professor in Distributed Scientific Computing within the department of information technology (INTEC-IBCN) of the faculty of Engineering at Ghent University. In 1993, after his Ph.D. on electromagnetic modeling at INTEC, Ghent University, he joined the EDA startup company Aphabit, later acquired by Hewlett-Packard, and now part of Agilent Technologies. In 2000, he went back to academia. His current research interests include machine learning, surrogate modeling, bioinformatics and distributed computing. He has published over 200 papers in international journals and conference proceedings, and he is the holder of 5 U.S. patents.

Elmar Griese was appointed to the University of Siegen in 2002 as a university professor for the chair of theoretical electrical engineering and photonics. After studying electrical engineering and obtaining his doctorate in the field of field calculation, both at the University of Paderborn, he worked for 10 years at Siemens AG in the research facility C-LAB, initially until 1996 in the field of EMC (electromagnetic compatibility). From 1997 he was involved in the research and development of an optical connection technology for applications on the system, module and chip level. From 1999 until he left Siemens AG in 2002, he was also deputy director of the C-LAB. Prof. Griese's research areas at the University of Siegen are modeling, simulation, analysis and design of optical components and architectures for optical assembly and connection technology. His areas of teaching include Theoretical electrical engineering, fundamentals of signal and system theory and optical communication technology. Prof. Griese is an IEEE senior member, URSI member and active in other scientific societies. He is the author of more than 120 scientific publications.

Elias Stathatos graduated from the Physics Department in 1991 and received his PhD in Materials Science/School of Engineering in 1999, both from the University of Patras, Greece. In the period 2008–2010, he was Department Head of the Electrical Engineering Department at Technological Educational Institute of Patras. His research interests encompass different themes, such as conversion of solar into electrical energy using dye-sensitized, quantum dot, and perovskite solar cells employing nanostructured materials. Furthermore, Prof. Stathatos is also interested in the application of electrochromic nanocomposite materials in smart windows as well as OLED and OFET devices and nanosensors in environmental applications. He is the author of more than 130 papers published in ISI journals, six book chapters , and five international patents related to solar cells and electrochromic devices. He has been an invited speaker or reviewer in numerus international journals.

Alfio Dario Grasso was born in Catania, Italy, in 1978. He received the Laurea degree (summa cum laude) and Ph.D. degree in Electronic Engineering from the University of Catania, Italy, in 2003 and 2006, respectively. From 2006 to 2011, he worked as a freelance engineer in the field of electronic systems. From 2009 to 2010, he served as Adjunct Professor of Electronics at the University Kore of Enna, Italy. In 2011, he began as Researcher (Assistant Professor) at the University of Catania, being later appointed Associate Professor in 2015. In 2017, he received the Italian National Scientific Qualification for the position of Full Professor. He currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on advanced VLSI digital design, microelectronics, and basic electronics. Dr. Grasso is Associate Editor at the Journal of Circuits, Systems and Computers. His current research interests include low-voltage, low-power analog circuit design and analog and mixed signal processing for energy harvesting applications. He has coauthored more than 80 papers on referred international journals and conference proceedings. Prof. Grasso is an IEEE senior member.

Giovanni (Gianni) Ramponi was born in Trieste, Italy, in 1956. He received the degree in Electronic Engineering (summa cum laude) in 1981; since 2000 he has been Professor of Electronics at the University of Trieste, Italy. His research interests include nonlinear digital signal processing, and in particular enhancement and feature extraction in images and video. He is co-inventor of several (pending) patents and he published more than 170 international papers.

Instructions for Authors

Submission
Submissions should be done by the authors online by registering with https://sciforum.net/, and using the "Start New Submission" function once logged into system.
  1. Scholars interested in participating with the conference can submit their abstract (about 200-300 words covering the areas of manuscripts for the proceedings issue) online on this website until 31 August 2020.
  2. The Conference Committee will pre-evaluate, based on the submitted abstract. All authors will be notified by 25 September 2020 about the acceptance of their abstract.
  3. If the abstract is accepted for this conference, the author is asked to submit the manuscript, optionally along with a PowerPoint and/or video until 15 October 2020.
  4. The conference proceedings papers and presentations will be available on https://iec2020.sciforum.net/ for discussion during the time of the conference 01–30 November 2020 and will be published in Journal Engineering Proceedings.
  5. The Open Access Journal Electronics will publish Special Issue of the conference and accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of the conference itself. After the conference, the Conference Committee will select manuscripts that may be included for publication in the Special Issue of the journal Electronics (the submission to the journal is independent from the conference proceedings and will follow the usual process of the journal, including peer-review, APC, etc.).

Manuscripts for the proceedings issue must have the following organization:

Manuscripts should be prepared in MS Word or any other word processor and should be converted to PDF format before submission. The publication format will be PDF. The manuscript should be at least three pages (incl. figures, tables and references). There is no page limit on the length, although authors are asked to keep their papers as concise as possible.

Presentation Slides

Authors are encouraged to prepare a presentation in PowerPoint or similar software, to be displayed online along with the manuscript. Slides, if available, will be displayed directly on the website using the proprietary slide viewer. Slides can be prepared in exactly the same way as for any traditional conference where research results are presented. Slides should be converted to PDF format before submission so that our process can easily and automatically convert them for online display.

Video Presentations

Besides their active participation within the forum, authors are also encouraged to submit video presentations. If you are interested in submitting a video presentation, please contact the conference organizer at iec2020@mdpi.com to find out more about the procedure. This is an unique way of presenting your paper and discussing it with peers from all over the world. Make a difference and join us for this project!

Presentation of Posters

Authors that wish to present a poster only, i.e., without proceedings paper, can do so in section I. Posters of this conference. Posters will be available on this conference website during and after the event. Like papers presented on the conference, participants will be able to ask questions and make comments about the posters. Posters that are submitted without paper will not be included in the proceedings of the conference.

Accepted File Formats

  • MS Word: Manuscripts prepared in MS Word must be converted into a single file before submission. When preparing manuscripts in MS Word, the Electronic Conference on Surfaces, Coatings and Interfaces Microsoft Word template file (see download below) must be used. Please do not insert any graphics (schemes, figures, etc.) into a movable frame which can superimpose the text and make the layout very difficult。
  • LaTeX: Manuscripts prepared in LaTeX must be collated into one ZIP folder (include all source files and images, so that the Conference Secretariat can recompile the submitted PDF). When preparing manuscripts in LaTeX, please use the 6th Electronic Conference on Sensors and Applications LaTeX template files.

Manuscript Preparation

Paper Format: A4 paper format, the printing area is 17.5 cm × 26.2 cm. The margins should be 1.75 cm on each side of the paper (top, bottom, left, and right sides).

  • Formatting/Style: Papers should be prepared following the style of Electronics. The full titles and the cited papers must be given. Reference numbers should be placed in square brackets [ ], and placed before the punctuation; for example, [1,2], [3] or [1–3], and all the references should be listed separately and as the last section at the end of the manuscript.
  • Author List and Affiliation Format: Authors' full first and last names must be given. Abbreviated middle names can be added. For papers written by various contributors a corresponding author must be designated. The PubMed/MEDLINE format is used for affiliations: complete street address information including city, zip code, state/province, country, and email address should be added. All authors who contributed significantly to the manuscript (including writing a section) should be listed on the first page of the manuscript, below the title of the article. Other parties, who provided only minor contributions, should be listed under Acknowledgments only. A minor contribution might be a discussion with the author, reading through the draft of the manuscript, or performing English corrections.
  • Figures, Schemes and Tables: Authors are encouraged to prepare figures and schemes in color. Full color graphics will be published free of charge. Figures and schemes must be numbered (Figure 1, Scheme I, Figure 2, Scheme II, etc.) and an explanatory title must be added. Tables should be inserted into the main text, and numbers and titles for all tables supplied. All table columns should have an explanatory heading. Please supply legends for all figures, schemes and tables. The legends should be prepared as a separate paragraph of the main text and placed in the main text before a table, a figure or a scheme.
